The allure of ski resorts goes beyond the slopes; for many visitors, it’s about the après-ski atmosphere, boutique shopping, and, most importantly, the culinary scene. Around the world, certain ski resorts stand out not only for their world-class skiing but also for their extraordinary dining experiences, featuring multiple Michelin-starred restaurants.

Chef’s Pencil conducted research to identify ski resorts (specialized in alpine or cross-country skiing)—and nearby mountain destinations within 10 miles of a ski area—that boast the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants globally.

Key Takeaways

  • Courchevel Leads the Way: The French alpine ski resort of Courchevel is the undisputed leader, with seven Michelin-starred restaurants and a total of 12 Michelin stars. Following closely are the exclusive Swiss ski resorts of Saint Moritz and Zermatt, each home to four Michelin-starred restaurants.
  • Global Representation: Ski resorts in eight countries boast at least one Michelin-starred restaurant. Switzerland (27) leads the way with the most Michelin-starred ski resorts, followed by Italy (21) and France (18). The United States is the only non-European nation on the list, while Finland is home to the northernmost Michelin-starred ski resorts.
  • Most Expensive Michelin Dining: The most expensive Michelin-starred restaurant in an alpine ski resort is Sylvestre Wahid – Les Grandes Alpes 1850 in Courchevel, France, where the exclusive tasting menu is priced at €495 (~$510 USD). It is followed by Da Vittorio in Saint Moritz (460 CHF/~$505 USD) and Le Chabichou by Stéphane Buron in Courchevel (€450/~$465 USD). Prices are per person, excluding drinks, service charges, or gratuities.
  • Affordable Michelin Dining Options: The most affordable Michelin-starred tasting menu in a ski resort can be found at Le Farçon in Courchevel, where a four-course lunch menu is priced at €88 (~$90 USD). Gourmands can also enjoy tasting menus below $100 per person (excluding drinks, service charges, or gratuities) at Il Cantinone e Sport Hotel Alpina in Madesimo, Italy, Tilia in Toblach, Italy, Au 1465 in Champex-Lac, Switzerland, and Le Cin5 – Au Cœur du Village in La Clusaz, France.

Top Ski Resorts with Michelin-Starred Restaurants

Please find below a round-up of ski resorts (and mountain destinations near ski areas) that feature at least two Michelin-starred restaurants.

1. Courchevel, France – 7 Michelin-Starred Restaurants

Courchevel leads the global rankings with an unparalleled seven Michelin-starred restaurants and a total of 12 Michelin stars, cementing its status as the alpine capital of fine dining. Nestled in the French Alps, Courchevel combines world-class skiing with an exceptional gastronomic scene, showcasing renowned chefs and exquisite alpine cuisine.

To put this into perspective, this exclusive French ski resort—with a resident population of roughly 2,300 people—has more Michelin-starred restaurants than cities like Brussels, Marseille, Istanbul, or Rio de Janeiro. It’s also one of the most expensive alpine resorts for dining, second only to Saint Moritz, with an average cost of €355 ($365) per tasting menu (excluding drinks, service charges, and gratuities). However, there are still opportunities to enjoy great bargains in Courchevel—more on this later.

Data

The full list of Michelin-starred restaurants located in or nearby a ski resort is available below:

Methodology

Chef's Pencil has researched Michelin-starred restaurants located in well-known ski resorts (both alpine and cross-country) or mountain resorts within 10 miles (15 km) of major ski areas.

The average prices referenced for Courchevel, Saint Moritz are based on the most exclusive tasting menus available.

Notable omission: We have excluded Baiersbronn, a renowned resort in Germany's Black Forest and home to four Michelin-starred restaurants, including two three-starred Michelin restaurants, as its nearby ski areas are small and, due to their low elevation, are not comparable to other ski resorts in this study.
